1. INTRODUCTION Backcountry Against the Dump, Inc., hereafter "Backcountry," wishes to support the development of a document that clearly addresses the issue of how to determine, i.e., how to calculate the sustainable yield of groundwater. The document will develop the proper scientific and technical basis for the sustainable use of groundwater at various scales of definition. To the extent possible, policy issues will also be addressed. Literature review, analysis, and synthesis will be used to achieve the objectives of the study. 2. SCOPE OF WORK Victor M. Ponce, hereafter "The Consultant," agrees to prepare a report entitled "Sustainable yield of groundwater." The document will explore three ways of establishing the sustainable yield of groundwater based on a percentage of: (1) aquifer volume, (2) aquifer recharge, and (3) deep percolation. The document will be written to facilitate understanding by reasonably informed, non-technical readers. The target audience consists of local stakeholders, decision-makers, government officials, politicians, and other interested parties. The document will consist of at least five sections: (1) Introduction, (2) Literature review, (3) Analysis, (4) Conclusions, and (5) Recommendations. The length of the document will be approximately 15 pages, including figures and tables. 3.
