The Jaguar of Lima, shown here, is part of the collection of the Gold Museum, in Lima, Peru. The hollow golden piece, estimated to be about 2100 years old, was found in 1925 after heavy rainfall originating in an El Niño event washed out a side of the Huaca of Pampa Grande, in Lambayeque, Peru, exposing a mummy bundle. The piece shown here is part of a necklace made with seven similar pieces.
The other six pieces are now exhibited in six museums of the United States, Canada, and Europe. The necklace is attributed to the Late Cupisnique/Proto Mochica civilization (See The Little Golden Jaguars of Pampa Grande).
