OBJECTIVES

To document the effect of water table depletion on the climatic, ecological, economic, and social changes which are occurring in the Ojos Negros valley.

To develop an agricultural data base which reflects the various actors (ejido proprietors and agroindustrial packing companies)
and the profit margins associated with their operations.

To develop a hydrogeological model to simulate present and future conditions associated with the exploitation of groundwater in the valley.

To couple the hydrogeologic model with the agricultural data base to determine the increasing cost of water pumping and its effect
on the profits of the agricultural operations.

To formulate strategies and solutions to redirect the Ojos Negros valley toward the sustainable use of water.
